Doering Synchronization of two synaptically coupled neurons with memory and synaptic delay is studied using the Rulkov map, one of the simplest neuron models which displays specific features inherent to bursting dynamics. We demonstrate a transition from lag to anticipated synchronization as the relationship between the memory duration and the synaptic delay time changes. The neuron maps synchronize either with anticipation, if the memory is longer than the synaptic delay time, or with lag otherwise. The mean anticipation time is equal to the difference between the memory and synaptic delay independently of the coupling strength. Frequency entrainment and phase-locking phenomena as well as a transition from regular spikes to chaos are demonstrated with respect to the coupling strength. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. Ethanol impairs memory by reducing the synaptic connection of the hippocampal spatial neurons

Background and Objective: Ethanol has undesirable effects on memory and synaptic communication. However, its impact on the learned spatial memory is unclear. We investigated the damaging effects of ethanol on place neurons of rat’s hippocampal CA1.Materials and Methods: Sixty four male Wistar rats (250 g) were administered high (1-8 g/kg) or low (0.05-0.1 g/kg) doses of ethanol intraperit...

Fra Given the importance of the network motifs, we consider a pair of Rulkov chaotic map neurons, reciprocally coupled via symmetrical chemical synapses with the time delay s. For the inhibitory and excitatory synapses, the ...

Linear matrix inequality approach for synchronization of chaotic fuzzy cellular neural networks with discrete and unbounded distributed delays based on sampled-data control

In this paper, linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach for synchronization of chaotic fuzzy cellular neural networks (FCNNs) with discrete and unbounded distributed delays based on sampled-data controlis investigated. Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional combining with the input delay approach as well as the free-weighting matrix approach are employed to derive several sufficient criteria in terms of...

Resonant synchronization in heterogeneous networks of inhibitory neurons.

Brain rhythms arise through the synchronization of neurons and their entrainment in a regular firing pattern. In this process, networks of reciprocally connected inhibitory neurons are often involved, but what mechanism determines the oscillation frequency is not completely understood. Analytical studies predict that the emerging frequency band is primarily constrained by the decay rate of the ...

Synchronization for Complex Dynamic Networks with State and Coupling Time-Delays

This paper is concerned with the problem of synchronization for complex dynamic networks with state and coupling time-delays. Therefore, larger class and more complicated complex dynamic networks can be considered for the synchronization problem. Based on the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, a delay-independent criterion is obtained and formulated in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs)...
